The activities at base camp at BTSR (Buffalo Trail Scout Ranch) are fun for everyone too.

Samuri Dan

This is one of the campers favorite noontime activities. Just before the outdoor weiner roast/ picnic is over, Ranger Dan transforms himself into "Samuri Dan" and serves up some watermelon to everyone using his big knife and some rather unusual techniques with lot of humor mixed in. " Back Behind The Line Of Death!!!"

This is an Eastern view from the top at Whiskey Bottle Tank.It seems as though you can see forever from up here. At night you feel like you can reach out and touch the stars. Below is a broad view of our campsite up here. The two tanks to the left are fresh water tanks. A few years back it was determined that to keep our back-country opened for camping and keeping livestock there had to be ample water supply. So we literally rolled these two tanks up the side of the mountain, ran a supply line to them, and pump water to them from base camp.

Here I'm leaving the kitchen area to go fetch more water. The big pot hanging over the campfire is a two gallon coffee pot that I built myself. Well, I have to make sure we have plenty of coffee on hand for everyone.

Ever wonder just how we get all them heavy pots and other gear all the way up here? Well, here he is. This is "Noisey", our camp burro. Without him it would be very difficult getting all the gear up on top of this mountain. So we take very good care of him.

This is my Lean-to shelter that I set up at our other Mountan man camp up at Whiskey Bottle Tank.

Pictured above is a view of part of the Base Camp area as we are making our 1,200 foot climb up to Whiskey Bottle Tank. We're barely a third of the way up at this point. The photo below one take of a place about a mile farther up trail from Needle Rock. It is called The Notch and is one of the most favorite places on the trails for weary hikers. Here they can take a refreshing dip in the twenty foot deep pool of water.

This is NEEDLE ROCK. It's one of the most prominent landmarks on this 6,000 acre camp. The needle is located about two miles up trail from the base camp. It stands about one hundred feet tall.
